Two Repeat Winners Among Three GNAC Weekly Honors for Pride

WINTHROP, Mass. – Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) repeated as Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as did Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) as GNAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, while Madelyn Klein (Framingham, Mass.) was named GNAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

For the second straight year, Kelley finished in the top five at the Smith College Invitational to lead the Pride. Kelley crossed the finish line in fourth place with a five-kilometer time of 19:41.8, over 20 seconds quicker than the fifth-place mark she posted at this event last year. Averaging 6:20.4 per mile, she ended up just 23 seconds behind the race winner.

At the same meet Saturday, Klein continued to contribute to the success of the Regis women's cross country team. She finished third among Pride competitors and in 47th place overall within a strong field with a five-kilometer time of 22:42.1, helping the team to a fifth place finish ahead of Salve Regina and Emerson.

Thompson continued a strong start to her collegiate career last Thursday against Roger Williams. First, she teamed with Samantha Gevry at number one doubles to defeat RWU's number one doubles team, 8-7, after prevailing in the tiebreaker, 7-3. Thompson would then win another tiebreaker to take the first set of her singles match in the number one position on her way to a straight-set victory (7-6, 6-0).

Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports within NCAA Division III as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
