All-GNAC Performance by Pike Leads Pride at GNAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) earned All-GNAC honors with a top-three finish as Regis College started competition Friday night at the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Boston Sports Institute.

Pike touched the wall third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:12.07, over five seconds faster than the time he posted in the first 1000 yards on his way to winning the 1650 freestyle at the 2020 conference championships.

Among all competitors, Pike notched the fastest split of 27.98 seconds in the final 50 yards to move up into third place. He scored eight points for the Pride men, with Norwich University moving to the top of the team standings after winning the 200 medley relay.

Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) finished in fifth place in the first 1000 freestyle race of her collegiate career, posting a time of 11:58.67. She was one of five swimmers out of 22 entries to complete the event in less than 12 minutes.

The team of Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.), Julia Burke (Barrington, N.H.), Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) and Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) finished 1/100th of a second ahead of Simmons University for second place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.55. Boatwright and Burke established an advantage over Simmons, with Lancisi and Luhnau posting strong swims to hold on and defeat the Sharks.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Luhnau, Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.), Lancisi, and Boatwright finished in fourth place with a time of 1:44.85, just 18/100ths of a second behind third place. The Regis women finished the night in fourth place in the team standings with 98 points as Roger Williams won both relays and posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle to take the early lead.

The 2022 GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships kick into full gear Saturday, Feb. 5, with preliminaries of seven individual swimming events starting at 10:30 a.m. The finals of one meter diving are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., followed by the individual event finals as well as the 400 medley relay commencing at 6:15 p.m.
