Ashleigh Kelley Receives Fifth GNAC Runner of Week Award

WINTHROP, Mass. – After her second individual victory of the season, senior Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Kelley crossed the finish line first in the Gold race at the Suffolk Invitational Saturday held at Franklin Park in Boston. She completed the six-kilometer course in 24:29.3, 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Kelley held a two-second advantage at the 3.1-kilometer mark and increased upon that to win the race.

This is Kelley's fifth GNAC Runner of the Week award of the season, as she was previously honored on Sept. 7, Sept. 13, Sept. 27, and Oct. 4. After a seventh-place finish at the season-opening Wellesley College Invitational, she has placed in the top five in past four competitions, including her first victory of the season at the Elms College Classic Sept. 25.

The Regis College cross country team will return to Franklin Park for the 2021 GNAC Cross Country Championships Saturday, Oct. 30. The women's six-kilometer event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by the men's eight-kilometer race at 3:15 p.m.
