Pride Cross Country Teams Place Third at Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2017 season Friday at the Wellesley College Cross Country Invitational. Both teams competed in 5K competitions with both finishing third.

Joining the Pride in the women's race were Brandeis and Wellesley, with Brandeis and Wentworth the Pride opponents in the men's competition. Brandeis took top team honors in both races.

The women's 5K race saw three Pride runners place in the top 10. Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) finished seventh (19:49) with Maggie Mann (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) placing ninth at 20:16. Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) finished 14th (20:34) to make it three in the top 15 for the Pride.

Jill Mosko (Woburn, Mass.) placed 30th (23:21) and Megan Bubello (Framingham, Mass.) 31st (24:03) to round out the Regis contingent.

Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) was the Pride's top finisher in the men's 5K race. He placed 21st overall running in a time of 17:48. Newcomers Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) (17:53.5) and JJ Pederson (Milford, Conn.) (17:53.8) were next to follow at 14th and 15th, respectively.

Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) crossed the finish line two places later with Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Matt Sowden (Scituate, R.I.) the final two finishers for Regis.

Regis will have just a shade over two weeks before its next race. Both teams take part in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational held Saturday, Sept. 16.
