Curtin, Romanchick Pace Cross Country At Roger Williams Invite

BRISTOL, R.I.Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) set a personal best and Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) finished just outside the top 20 to highlight the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's cross country 5K race at the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday at Colt State Park. The meet was the 2016 season opener.

Curtin placed 10th out of 126 runners for the Pride. As a team, Regis placed sixth out the 13 teams competing, finishing less than one second behind host Roger Williams. Curtin (20:32.69) was narrowly edged by Salve Regina's Taylor Ricker (20:31.38). Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) was next to finish at 17th (20:51.86) and Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) (21:01) was the third Regis finisher to make it three top 25 finishes for the Pride.

Wellesley won the team title and had the top finisher in Mary Kreidel (19:05.31).

On the men's side, the Pride placed 10th behind Romanchick's 21st-place finish (17:48.02). Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) was next to cross the tape, running the 5K in 18:26.97 good for 46th place.

Colby-Sawyer won the team title for the men with Gordon's Damon Kilgore crossing the tape first with a time of 15:34.56.

The Pride will have next weekend off before returning to competition at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11:15 a.m.
