PRIDE EARN THIRD PLACE AT NECC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Regis College women's cross country team finished in third place at the New England Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

Freshman Andrea O'Hearn (Pelham, N.H.) and junior Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) were both named to the All-NECC Second Team. O'Hearn finished the 5k race in a time of 21:03.45, good for a sixth place finish, while McLaughlin finished eighth with a time of 21:21.60.

Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) finished 13th with a time of 21:43.37, with Ashley Ventolieri (Pelham, N.H.) placing 15th at 21:46.62. Sarah Backholm (Sutton, Mass.) rounded out the top-20 finishes with a time of 22:40.22 and an 18th place finish.

Rachel Wood (Manchester, N.H.) was named to the All-NECC Sportsmanship Team.

Wheelock College captured the NECC Championship behind Runner and Rookie of the Year Gina Powell, who won the race with a time of 19:48.31. The Wildcats placed four runners inside the top-15 for the win, while head coach Wole Oke was named the Coach of the Year.

Lesley University came in second place, edging the Pride by only one point. Following Regis in fourth place was Southern Vermont College, with Elms, Mitchell, Newbury, and Bay Path rounding out the Championship meet.
