FRESHMAN DUO, FLYNN, WIN MAJOR AWARDS AT NECC CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's cross country teams both had solid finishes at the New England Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships held at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. The women's team grabbed a third place finish on the day, while the men finished fourth.

Both Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) and Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) won the prestigious "NECC Rookie of the Year" honor today by finishing first amongst all freshmen in the Championship race. Head Coach Dan Flynn was named the Coach of the Year on the men's side as well.

It was a great day for the cross country programs inaugural season. With Norton, McLaughlin and Jonathan Paul (Medford, Mass.) receiving All-Conference honors, the Regis XC team looks to be suited to compete at the top of the league for many years to come.

On the Women's side, there were other amazing highlights including personal bests by Sarah Schow (Southborough, Mass.), Krysten Sheppard (Medford, Mass.), Kylie Homem (Peabody, Mass.), and Stephanie Cruz-Santos (Brockton, Mass.).

In the men's race, five men ran their personal bests. Norton (29:17), Owen McQuaid (Marlboro, Mass.) with a time of 32:06, Jeremy Israel (Randolph, Mass.) at 32:32, Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) at 37:43, and Sean LaPrise (Medford, Mass.) with a time of 39:11.

Both teams look to compete at the ECAC XC Championships in Bristol, RI in two weeks.
