PRIDE MEN TAKE EIGHTH, WOMEN FINISH NINTH AT ELMS INVITATIONAL

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Regis College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Elms College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Chicopee State Park. The Pride men, who ran an 8k course, took home an eighth place finish out of 12 teams, while the women, racing in a 5k course, placed ninth out of 19 teams.

Three members of the women's team all placed among the top 50 individual finishers. Leading the pack was freshman Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.), who finished the course in 21:05 for a 13th place finish out of 129 total runners. Junior Rachel Wong (Wakefield, Mass.) would come in just 1:06 after McLaughlin to secure a 28th place finish. Rounding out the top three was senior Sarah Schow (Southborough, Mass.), who took 48th after recording a time of 23:34.

Other runners for the women included junior S.K. (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Kylie Homem (Peabody, Mass.), who finished in 25:33 and 29:16, respectively.

Sophomore Jonathan Paul (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) were the top two finishers on the men's side. Paul came in 31st out of 91 total runners after crossing the finish line at 30:07, and Norton came in shortly after in 30:58, which was good enough for a 38th place individual finish.

Junior Owen McQuaid (Marlboro, Mass.) was next for Regis (33:04), followed by classmate Jeremy Israel (Randolph, Mass.) (34:33) and sophomore Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) (43:02).

The Pride will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they take part in the James Early Invitational at Westfield State University. Races are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
