Pride Women’s Volleyball Splits Non-Conference Tri-Match

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Regis College faced two Little East Conference programs Saturday afternoon, defeating Eastern Connecticut State, 3-0, before losing to host Plymouth State, 3-1, in non-conference women's collegiate volleyball action at Foley Gymnasium.

REGIS 3, EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16)

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) led the Pride with nine kills and 11 digs, while Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished with six kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) also collected six kills along with 23 assists and five digs, Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) earned a team-high three service aces, and Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) also finished with 11 digs.

In the opening set, Regis put together a 6-2 scoring run to pull out to a 12-7 lead before consecutive kills by Nayeli Cruz Martinez. The Pride scored the next four points and then continued to maintain a comfortable lead the rest of the first set, clinching it on a kill by Tenorio.

The second set went back-and-forth, with the Warriors taking a 9-8 lead in a service ace by Cassie Parmelee. Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) responded with consecutive kills and a block assist to pull ahead, 11-9, but Eastern Connecticut State went on a 6-1 scoring run to retake the lead at 18-14. The Pride answered back with an 8-2 scoring run, led by three kills from Montigny, and then they closed out the second set on kills by Albers and Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.).

The teams split the first 12 points of the third set before the Pride rattled off six unanswered points, capped by a kill from Mckinney and a service ace by Albers. The Warriors closed to within four at 17-13 on a kill by Anna Barry, but Regis would close out the set and the match with an 8-3 scoring stretch, including consecutive aces by Albers.

Eastern Connecticut State (14-8) was led by Barry with 12 kills and Cruz Martinez with seven kills. Meg Verizzi finished with 24 assists and seven digs, Parmelee led all players with four service aces, and Jenna Loring also finished with seven defensive digs for the Warriors.

PLYMOUTH STATE 3, REGIS 1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19)

Dow and Whalen led the Pride offensive effort with eight kills apiece, while Tenorio finished with six kills, four service aces, and 15 defensive digs. Mckinney earned 19 assists and seven digs, Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) contributed 12 assists and eight digs, and Serrano-Monserrate paced the Regis backline with 16 digs.

Regis scored the first two points of the match on an ace by Tenorio and a kill from Albers, but the Panthers quickly responded with an 11-2 scoring run, starting with a kill and a service ace by Natalie Gravelle. Plymouth State extended its lead with an 8-1 scoring run, and then closed out the first set with a 6-1 scoring stretch, led by two kills and a block assist from Nora Ryan.

Plymouth State (18-5) took an early 6-4 lead in the second set after an ace from Kalista Butler, but Regis responded with a 6-2 scoring run, capped by an Albers kill, to pull ahead, 10-8. The teams exchanged short scoring runs throughout the set, with Regis collecting five of the final six points, led by Dow with two kills and consecutive service aces to close out the set and tie the match.

In a tight third set, Plymouth State took a four-point lead on a block by Ryan and Lindsey Sanderson before Regis rallied back, eventually tying the set at 17-17 on back-to-back kills by Dow as well as a Tenorio kill. After a Tenorio ace gave the Pride a 21-20 lead, the Panthers closed out the third set with a 5-2 scoring run, featuring two kills from Aynslee King.

In the fourth set, a kill by Dow gave the Pride a 9-8 lead before the Panthers put together a 7-1 scoring run, led by Ryan with two kills and two total blocks. Regis responded by scoring five of the next six points to tie the set at 16-16, but the Panthers rattled off five unanswered points, including two aces from Butler. Plymouth State would clinch the set and the match on two blocks by Ryan and Ryley McNeeley.

Ryan finished with 14 kills, a .579 hitting percentage, and eight total blocks, while McNeeley and Sanderson collected seven kills apiece. Riley McDonough earned 24 assists and six digs, Butler contributed 18 assists, five service aces, and seven digs, and Lilli Stogner paced the Panthers with 16 digs to go along with six kills.

Regis College (17-11) starts the final week of the regular season with home matches against University of Saint Joseph Tuesday, Oct. 25, and Fisher College Thursday, Oct. 27, both contests beginning at 6 p.m. at Higgins Court.
