PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Regis College played two competitive matches Saturday, but could not defeat either Johnson and Wales or Salve Regina during a women's collegiate volleyball tri-match at the Wildcat Center.

JOHNSON & WALES 3, REGIS 0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19)

Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Pride on offense with 10 kills, while Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) notched a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs. Defensively, Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the team at the net with five total blocks, and Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) paced the backline with 16 digs.

Led by three kills and a block assist by Amanda Koch, Johnson and Wales took an early three-point lead, and then eventually doubled it to six points at 13-7 on a kill by Peyton Oliver. The Pride closed to within one at 14-13, led by two kills from Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.), but the Wildcats responded with a 6-2 scoring run to extend their lead back to five at 20-15.

Regis scored four unanswered points, including a kill by Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) and a solo block by Montigny, to cut its deficit to one at 21-20. The Wildcats held off the Pride rally, clinching the opening set when Koch and Kyra Hissner teamed up on a block, followed by a kill by Oliver.

Johnson and Wales (6-5, 2-0 GNAC) scored the first three points of the second set, but the Pride quickly responded with a 7-1 scoring run to pull ahead, 10-6. The home team answered with a 9-3 scoring stretch, featuring consecutive service aces by Emily Corbett and capped by a kill and a solo block from Koch.

The Pride scored five unanswered points, including kills by Montigny and Mckinney, to take a 22-20 lead late in the set. The Wildcats scored five of the final six points to clinch the second set, including a service ace by Hissner as well as kills from Sarah Miller and Masina Tupea.

Danielle Rank helped the Wildcats establish a 10-5 lead in the third set with two kills and two block assists, but the Pride took a timeout and then put together a 5-1 scoring run to close to within one at 11-10. Johnson and Wales responded with its own 7-1 scoring stretch, including two service aces by Miller. Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) notched a block assist and consecutive kills to help the Pride close to within three points at 21-18, but the Wildcats scored four of the final five points of the set to clinch the match.

Miller finished with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Hissner also notched a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs. Koch contributed nine kills on a .533 hitting percentage as well as five total blocks, and Corbett led the Wildcats defensively with 14 digs.

SALVE REGINA 3, REGIS 1 (27-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20)

Whalen led the Pride offensively with 10 kills, while Mckinney finished with nine kills, 20 assists, seven digs, and four block assists. Miller contributed 18 assists, and Serrano-Monserrate led the Regis backline with 16 defensive digs.

Salve Regina (9-5) took the early lead in the first set on consecutive service aces from Brighton Solheim, but Regis responded with an 8-3 scoring run to pull ahead by three points. After the Seahawks pulled into a 12-12 tie on a kill by Madison Lee, the Pride put together an 8-2 scoring run to open a six-point advantage at 20-14.

Two service aces from Mackenzie Lee helped the Seahawks close their deficit to two before the Pride rattled off three straight points for a 23-18 advantage. Salve Regina closed out the first set with a 9-2 scoring run, featuring two blocks by the tandem of Madison Lee and Sydney Ramsey as well as a clinching kill from Madison Lee.

In the second set, the Pride pulled ahead 10-9 on a kill by Whalen before the Seahawks went on a 5-1 scoring run, capped by a kill from Siena DeCicco. Salve Regina extended its advantage to 20-14 by scoring four unanswered points, and then it closed out the second set with a 4-1 scoring stretch, punctuated by two kills from Lauren Hoyle along with a service ace by Kate Murphy.

The third set saw the two teams battle early, with Salve Regina taking an 11-10 lead on a kill by Solheim before Regis put together a 7-1 scoring run, featuring two kills and a block assist by Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.). The Seahawks closed to within two on a kill by Hoyle, but the Pride held off the comeback attempt, eventually winning the third set to extend the match on a kill by Tenorio.

Starting with a service ace by Tenorio, the Pride opened an 8-1 advantage in the fourth set before the Seahawks battled back with a 14-4 scoring run, capped by three consecutive kills by Solheim. Regis cut its deficit to two at 19-17 on a kill by Montigny, but Salve Regina closed out the set and the match with a 6-3 scoring stretch, starting with a kill and a service ace from Solheim.

Solheim led the Seahawks with 14 kills, five service aces, and 16 digs, while Lucy Swanson and Meaghan Corkery finished with nine kills apiece. DeCicco notched a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs, and Murphy contributed three service aces and 14 digs.

Regis College (9-9, 3-2 GNAC) will have non-conference road matches at Keene State Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Framingham State Thursday, Oct. 6, with both contests starting at 7 p.m.
