Women’s Volleyball Defeats Previously Unbeaten Eastern Nazarene

WESTON, Mass. – After winning the first two sets, Regis College allowed Eastern Nazarene College to take the third set before recovering to defeat the previously unbeaten Lions, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12), Tuesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) notched her second double-double of the season with 15 kills and 14 digs, plus she posted a .394 hitting percentage and earned a team-high four service aces. Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) collected nine kills on a .421 hitting percentage along with five digs and five total blocks, while Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) also finished with nine kills along with 25 assists, three service aces, six digs, and three block assists. Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) led the Pride with a season-high 16 digs.

Consecutive kills from Tenorio allowed the Pride to open an 8-5 lead in the first set, and then Regis would eventually open a four-point advantage at 13-9 on kills by Montigny and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.). The Lions scored five of the next six points, capped by a kill from Maria Clarabuch, to tie the set at 14-14, but the Pride scored four of the next five points to retake the lead at 18-15.

The momentum quickly swung back to Eastern Nazarene with four unanswered points, including a service ace from Fiona Shaw that gave the Lions a 19-18 lead. The Pride battled back and went ahead for good in the set thanks to a 6-2 scoring run, eventually clinching it on a kill by Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.).

The Pride opened a 7-2 lead in the second set, and then consecutive service aces by Mckinney later in the set helped extend the Regis advantage to 20-8. The Lions put together a 7-1 scoring run, capped by consecutive kills from Clarabuch, to close to within six, but Regis started trading points with Eastern Nazarene, closing out the second set on a kill by Whalen.

Three kills from Eliana Baran at the start of the third set allowed the Lions to open an 8-5 advantage, but the Pride responded with a 6-1 scoring run, featuring two kills and a block assist by Montigny. Regis opened a five-point lead late in the set as Montigny picked up two more kills and another block assist, but Eastern Nazarene extended the match thanks to an 8-1 scoring run to win the set, led by Baran with four kills.

Regis scored the first four points of the fourth set and eventually increased its lead to 11 at 18-7. The Lions scored four of the next five points to close to within eight before the Pride finished off the set and the match by earning six of the final seven points, capped by a kill from Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) and a service ace from Makenzie Price (Birmingham, Ala.).

Baran finished with a match-high 19 kills along with seven digs, with Clarabuch contributing nine kills and seven digs. Hailey Wright notched a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs, Andrea Aceituno earned six kills and 10 digs, and Shaw led the Lions with 14 defensive digs.

Regis College (6-6) hosts Wentworth Thursday, Sept. 22, starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (7-1) hosts Rhode Island College on the same night beginning at 7 p.m.
