Pride Women’s Volleyball Loses to Bates

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – In its final match of the Bonnie May Invitational hosted by Smith College, Regis College lost to Bates College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19), Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Ainsworth Gymnasium.

Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) led the Pride with seven kills, while Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) finished with five kills. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) dished out 12 assists, Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) collected two service aces, and Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) paced the backline with eight defensive digs.

Bates (2-1) scored five of the first six points of the match and led 9-4 before Regis put together its own 6-1 scoring run to tie the set at 10-10. Alyssa Lowther notched consecutive kills to put the Bobcats ahead for good as they eventually scored the final four points of the opening set, taking advantage of three straight Regis errors.

Consecutive service aces from Ami Evans allowed the Bobcats to jump ahead in the second set as they later rattled off a 9-1 scoring run, including two service aces from Kate Hansen. Bates would close out the second set with an 8-2 scoring run, punctuated by a block from Julia Neumann and Kate Ares.

The Bobcats scored the first two points of the third set on kills by Lowther and Neumann and eventually extend their lead to 10-4. Down 17-8 after another kill from Neumann, Regis fought back, going on a 7-1 scoring run, led by three kills from Whalen, to close to within three points. Bates scored five of the final six points of the match, clinching the set on kills by Bella Lomet and Evans.

Lowther led the Bobcats with nine kills, Evans finished with seven kills and a team-high eight digs, and Neumann earned seven kills without an attack error for a .583 hitting percentage along with five total blocks. Emma Eide collected 22 assists and three service aces in the winning effort.

Regis College (3-5) hosts Curry College Tuesday, Sept. 13, starting at 7 p.m. at Higgins Court.
