Regis College Women’s Volleyball Battles in Texas
IRVING, Texas – Regis College was defeated in two hard-fought contests against McMurry University and the University of Dallas Friday night in non-conference volleyball matchups at the Maher Center Gymnasium.
 
McMurry 3 - Regis 1 (25-20, 25-18, 13-25, 25-21)
 
The Pride had an explosive third set, outscoring McMurry 16-3 to finish the set. Trailing by one, a kill by Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) tied the score at 10-10 and started the run for Regis. Consecutive kills by Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.) and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) ended the run and clinched the set.
 
The first two sets of the contest went back and forth between the two opponents with the first set being decided by a four-point McMurry run to close out the set. The second set played out in a similar fashion when McMurry extended their lead with another four-point run to put the set out of reach for the Pride.
 
The fourth set was neck and neck with both teams tied at 10 before McMurry went on a 7-2 scoring run to pull away with the lead, leaving Regis unable to catch up.
 
Whalen and Mckinney led the Pride with 10 kills apiece while Mckinney added 21 assists. Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) finished with 18 assists and seven digs while Princesa Gonzalez (Lares, Puerto Rico) and Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) both added 10 digs.
 
Dallas 3 - Regis 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-11)
 
Regis got off to a hot start in set one with kills by Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) and Whalen and a service ace from Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.), giving the Pride a 3-1 lead. Dallas battled back, scoring five straight points, capped by a service ace by Emma Parsons that forced a Pride timeout. Regis retook the lead with a kill by Whalen, a block by Pacheco and Dow, and a kill by Pacheco, but Dallas ended up winning the first set, going on a 6-1 run to close it out.
 
Set two went back and forth with Dallas leading 10-9, forcing a Regis timeout. Dallas scored three straight points after the timeout, taking a four-point lead that they would not give up. Trailing 24-16, the Pride attempted a comeback, cutting the deficit with three straight points, but ultimately were unable to complete the comeback.
 
The final set got away from Regis as Dallas took an early lead and was able to keep the Pride offense at bay.
 
Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the Pride with eight kills and a .438 kill percentage, Mckinney had 13 assists and eight digs, and Tenorio led Regis with nine digs. Cassie Dyoub led Dallas with 10 kills and a .474 kill percentage while Parsons had 12 assists and 7 digs.
 
Regis College (0-2) next plays Saturday, Sept. 3, against Paul Quinn College at 11:00 a.m. EDT and host Austin College at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
