Regis Volleyball Comes Back for Reverse Sweep over Fisher

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team came back from a 2-0 deficit against Fisher College to emerge victorious, 3-2 (16-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-8, 17-15), extending its winning streak to 10 matches, the Pride's longest since 2014, at Higgins Court Wednesday night.

In a back-and-forth contest featuring multiple long rallies, Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) led the way for the Pride, collecting 16 kills, seven service aces, and 24 digs. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) had 15 kills and 13 kills respectively, while Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) led the team in assists with a career-high 48. Defensively, Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Pride with a career-high 33 digs.

After going up 4-1 to start off the first set, the visiting Falcons were able to maintain a slight lead until they began to pull away, prompting Regis to call a timeout as its deficit grew to 17-11. Fisher maintained the advantage for the remainder of the set, clinching it 25-16.

Regis set the tone of the second set early on with a punishing spike by Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.). Aggressive play on both sides yielded a back-and-forth contest until, following a kill by Tenorio, the Pride went on a three-point scoring run to take a slight lead, 14-11. Fisher managed to close the gap and pull ahead, ultimately winning a nail-biter of a set, 25-22.

Led by the service of Fagundo, the Pride opened the third set with three consecutive points. Regis continued to push their advantage, going up 17-8. Fisher inched its way back into the set, scoring five consecutive points, but the Pride were able to fend off the attack and clinch the set, 25-16.

Regis continued their success from the previous set into the fourth as Tenorio served out of the gate, putting the Pride up early, 4-0. The Pride continued their domination of the fourth set, winning by a margin of 17 points.

The fifth set went back-and-forth, featuring 10 ties and four lead changes as the two squads needed extra points to decide the set and match. With the score tied at 15-15, Dow connected on a kill to give Regis its fourth opportunity to close out the match. Aryam Serrano-Monserrate (Lake Forest, Calif.) clinched the match with a service ace as the Pride extended their winning streak to 10 matches, the longest for the program in seven years.

Fisher's Macy Barnes had a standout performance, collecting 18 kills and 14 digs, while the Falcons were led defensively by Lia Aime with 21 digs. Fisher collected 91 digs as a team, but ended up behind Regis in kills (64-44), service aces (11-5), and team blocks (8-4).
