REGIS MAKES IT FOUR-STRAIGHT, SWEEPS NEWBURY

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Regis College picked up its fourth-straight win with a 3-0 win in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Friday evening. First year outside hitter Kristina del Ray (Miami, Fla.) led the Pride to victory notching a team-high 10 kills on 25 attempts while recording four block assists.

The Nighthawks came out of the gate strong, jumping out in front to the quick 5-0 lead in game one before the Pride answered with an 9-3 run and did not look back. Late in the first set, it appeared as momentum was swinging back towards the side of Newbury when first year middle hitter Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) re-gained the lead for the Nighthawks, 20-19 with a kill, but it was not enough as Regis went on to take the 1-0 advantage with a 25-21 victory.

Regis kept the momentum going in game two, grabbing an early 7-4 lead behind del Ray and senior middle blocker Vanessa Noesi (Puerto Plata, D.R.), who combined to register six kills on 18 attempts with two total blocks. Banks and first year setter McKenzie Kish (Eagle River, Alaska) kept Newbury in the contest with four kills and eight assists, respectively, but the Pride were just too much, edging out Nighthawks, 25-22 to take a two-game lead.

In the third set, the Pride remained red-hot offensively. While Banks hit .375 with four kills on eight attempts and one error, Regis junior outside hitter Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) matched the Southern Californian hitting .375 herself with four kills while del Ray and junior outside hitter Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) had three kills each to help the Pride take game three and the match, 25-17.

Banks finished the night with a match-high 14 kills on 28 attempts and just five errors for an impressive .321 attack percentage while Kish paced the Nighthawk offense with 23 assists. The loss drops the Nighthawks to 6-2 in the conference while Regis improves to 13-17 and 6-2 in the NECC.
