PRIDE CLINCH POSTSEASON BERTH WITH 3-0 SWEEP

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis College women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College by set scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-12 on Saturday night in a New England Collegiate Conference match-up.

Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) led all players with nine kills and added six service aces to lead the Pride (11-17 overall, 4-2 NECC). Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) contributed eight kills while Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) handed out 25 assists and Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) chipped in with 11 digs. With the win, Regis clinched a berth in the upcoming NECC Championship.

Sophomore Amanda Garcia (New Britain, Conn.) led the Mariners (7-12 overall, 2-4 NECC) with seven kills while senior Gloria Charles (New Haven, Conn.) added six and freshman Amanda Rowan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished with four. Sophomore Nicole Caminiti (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) dished out 16 assists to lead the Mitchell attack.

Regis raced out to a 12-5 lead in the opening set and was never really threatened. Mitchell won four straight points to eventually cut the deficit to 20-16, but the Pride responded by winning five of the next six points to go up 1-0 in the match.

The second set was the closest of the night, with the Mariners jumping out to an early 8-3 lead. After Regis rallied with five straight points to take a 10-9 lead, Mitchell responded with five straight of its own to pull back ahead 14-10. Later on, with the score tied at 18-18, the Pride took seven of the next nine points to close out the set, getting the final two points on kills by Silver.

Gold and Silver served Regis to a 7-1 lead to open the third set, and the Pride later led 13-4 before the home squad got back on track. Mitchell went on a run to make it 15-10 following a kill by Garcia, but the Mariners managed only two more points for the rest of the contest. Vanessa Noesi (Puerto Plata, D.R.) ended the match with a solo block to give the Pride the victory.

Regis finished with 32 team kills in 66 attempts for a .348 hitting percentage. The Pride also served for a dozen aces and had three team blocks.

Regis returns to action at home against Lesley University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
