REGIS SERVES BECKER 3-0 SETBACK

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College posted 16 service aces en route to a 3-0 sweep of Becker College on Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. The Pride (10-17, 3-2 NECC) used set scores of 25-8, 25-19, and 25-13 to defeat the Hawks (3-17, 0-5 NECC).

The opening set was all Regis as they jumped out to an early 7-2 lead following a Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) kill. A Sara Casullo (Little Falls, N.Y.) service ace made it a 14-5 advantage, before the Pride ended the game on an 11-3 run that included a pair of service aces from Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) and two kills from Vanessa Noesi (Puerta Plata, D.R.) to take the opening set, 25-8.

Becker answered in the second game as the Hawks took an early 3-1 lead following a Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) service ace. Regis scored eight of the next nine points to take a 9-4 lead, but three-straight errors from the Pride kept Becker in the game and made it 9-7. The Pride responded with a 7-0 run to take a commanding 16-7 lead, but Becker scored four-straight points including a Katelyn Burns (Fall River, Mass.) ace and a kill from Samantha Caouette (Montague, Mass.) to make it a 16-11 contest.

The two teams traded points before back-to-back kills from Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) and a pair of Becker errors sparked a quick 5-0 spurt for the Pride that gave Regis a 23-14 lead. Becker would not go quietly, as they scored five of the final seven points of the game, but it was too little too late as the Pride held on for the 25-19 win.

Noesi capped off an 8-1 run to open the third set and the Pride later took a 16-5 lead after a Bliss ace and a Becker error. Angela Jankowski (Webster, Mass.) and Caouette registered back-to-back kills to make it a 16-8 game, but the Pride rattled off a 6-1 run to take a 22-9 lead. Jacqueline Chila made it interesting at the end, registering two more kills, but the Pride lead was too large to overcome as Regis swept Becker with the 25-13 win.

Jackie Silver led the Pride attack with a game-high 12 kills, five aces, and seven digs. Vanessa Noesi posted nine kills and a pair of blocks, while Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) had seven kills and two blocks. Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) dished out 30 assists to go with four aces and six digs, while Sam Bliss matched her with six digs on the night.

The Hawks were paced by five kills from Chila, while Katelyn Burns and Samantha Caouette had two kills apiece. Lauren Lavallee (Millbury, Mass.) had seven assists, with Burns leading the Becker defense with six digs on the night.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Pride travels to Mitchell College for a 6:00 p.m. NECC contest. Becker will try and rebound on Thursday night when they host Worcester State at 7:00 p.m.
