PRIDE SWEEP WILDCATS IN THREE SETS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over visiting Bay Path College in New England Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride used set scores of 25-22, 25-11, 25-11 in the victory and improve to 7-13 overall and 1-1 in the NECC. Bay Path falls to 1-14 and 0-2 in league games.

The Wildcats came out strong to start the match as they took a 4-2 lead following a kill by Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.). Regis responded with three-straight points to take a 5-4 lead, but Bay Path followed with an 8-2 run to take a commanding 12-6 advantage on a Kate Bartels (Dalton, Mass.) kill that forced a Regis timeout. The Pride cut it to two at 12-10 on back-to-back kills by Vanessa Noesi (Puerta Plata, D.R.) and Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) and a service ace by Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.).

Bay Path withstood the small run and went on a run of their own, taking advantage of several Pride errors to take an 18-13 lead. The teams traded points and the score was 22-17 in favor of the visitors following another Pride attack error. Regis ended the game on an 8-0 run as Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) had four kills and Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) had three service aces during that stretch to take game one, 25-22.

Game two started out all Regis as the Pride took a 12-1 lead following a Sam Bliss service ace. Bay Path was able to cut it to a 16-7 deficit as Gladys Reed (Hamden, Conn.) and Haylette had two kills apiece during their run. The Pride ended the game on another run, this one a 9-4 streak, which gave the Pride a 2-0 lead headed into game three.

In the final game, Regis opened with a 3-1 lead before a Pride error and a Bartels service ace tied the score at 3-3 early in the set. Erin Picard (Bellingham, Mass.) then served on nine straight points, including two service aces, to stake the Pride to a 13-3 lead. The Pride stretched its lead to 17-5 on a Sara Casullo (Little Falls, N.Y.) kill, but Bay Path scored three-straight points as Gladys Reed picked up her fifth kill of the match to make it 17-8. The Pride were able to keep the Wildcats at bay as they held on for a 25-11 win and a 3-0 sweep in the match.

Kristina del Rey and Sam Bliss led the Pride attack with nine kills apiece, while Vanessa Noesi added six of her own, and Jackie Silver had four kills. Sara Gold paced the Pride defense with 11 digs, while Susel Jerez (Lawrence, Mass.) had two blocks on the night. Marilia Ramos handed out 25 assists and had three aces in the victory.

Bay Path was led by seven kills from Elizabeth Haylette and five kills from Gladys Reed. Kadie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) had 11 digs, while Jennifer Pham (Springfield, Mass.) had nine digs of her own. Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) set up the offense with 12 assists on the night.

The Pride return to action this weekend when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take part in the Johnson & Wales University Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Bay Path hosts Southern Vermont on Saturday afternoon in an NECC match scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
