WESTON, Mass. – For the second straight week and third time this season, sophomore defensive specialist Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) of the Regis College women's volleyball team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference earlier this morning. Ramos helped guide her team to its first-ever NECC Championship appearance, despite entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed

The sophomore registered 34 assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory over Mitchell College in the NECC First Round. Ramos followed that performance with 30 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over No. 2 seeded Newbury College, a team which the Pride had fallen to earlier in the season. In the Championship match, a 3-0 loss to Southern Vermont College, Ramos handed out 18 assists and chipped in defensively with eight digs. Ramos was awarded for her strong efforts in the week by being named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Pride, who had won eight matches in a row prior to the loss in the Championship, conclude the 2012 season with a 15-17 overall record.
