LYNX CLAW PAST REGIS, 3-1

WESTON, Mass. – Lesley University defeated Regis College, 3-1, on Wednesday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. The Lynx (7-15, 3-4 NECC) used set scores of 29-27, 25-18, 9-25, 25-19 to defeat the Pride (8-17, 4-4 NECC). Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) had nine kills and 17 digs to lead Regis on her senior night.

Set one was a back and forth battle between the two teams as they traded leads for a majority of the game. With Regis trailing 22-21, Caitlyn Walsh (Taunton, Mass.) stepped to the service line and knotted the game at 22 with a service ace. Regis took a 23-22 lead on a block by Vanessa Noesi (Methuen, Mass.) and Walsh before the sophomore set up Regis with match point, 24-22, grabbing another service ace. The Lynx would not go quietly however, as Alyson Finbow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) made it a 24-23 game before the teams traded errors and were tied as late as 27-27. Lesley sealed game one when the Pride made back-to-back errors, giving the Lynx a 29-27 win.

Regis fell behind early in set two but were able to rally past the Lynx and take a 10-7 lead on a pair of Domingas Gomes service aces. Lesley tied the score at 15-15 on a Kayla Henry (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) service ace that began a 10-3 run for Lesley in taking game two, 25-18.

The third set was all Regis as they climbed out of a 7-5 hole to end the game on a 20-2 run including a pair of kills by Vanessa Noesi and Anneliese Harrison (Holliston, Mass.) as well as another Caitlyn Walsh ace.

Regis grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the fourth game but both teams were tied at 10-10 following a Vanessa Noesi solo block. Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, Pa.) gave the Lynx a 13-10 with a pair of service aces and the Pride battled back to only a 17-16 deficit following a Lesley error. The Lynx would recover, however, rifling off three straight points to extend their lead to 20-16, prompting a Regis timeout. Both teams traded errors for the next few points with Regis getting as close as 22-18 on a Gomes ace, but it was too little too late as Lesley closed out the match with a 25-19 win.

Regis was paced by nine kills, four aces and 17 digs from senior Domingas Gomes. Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.) posted eight kills and 14 digs, while Noesi had five kills and six total blocks in the match. Caitlyn Walsh handed out 26 assists to go along with four service aces and 11 digs. Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) also chipped in with a match-high 25 digs.

Lesley was led by 12 kills and 14 digs from Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China). Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) joined her with a double-double by posting 10 kills and 19 digs. Kaitlyn Miller had 25 assists to go along with 12 digs, while Rachel Frederickson (Marston Mills, Mass.) had a team-high 22 digs.
