MOUNTAINEERS CLIMB OVER REGIS, 3-0

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Regis College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon in NECC action in Bennington, Vt. The Pride drops to 6-16 overall and 2-3 in league play while the Mountaineers improve to 24-2 and 4-0 in conference play.

The Regis College Pride weren't about to let down against the high powered Mountaineer offense Saturday. In the first set the Pride raced out to a 7-2 lead. Southern Vermont quickly regained its composure and battled back to take a brief 8-7 lead, behind the serving of Cindyline Sevilla. After Regis tied the score at eight the two teams split the next two points. Then Mountaineer Vivian Delgado served the Mountaineers to a demanding 16-9 lead. The Pride didn't give in, and continued to battle but Southern Vermont held strong for a 25-20 opening set victory.

In the second game, with the score at 5-2 in favor of SVC, Sevilla's serve once again proved to be key. Sevilla served the Mountaineers to a 10-2 lead en route to a 25-13 SVC victory.

In the final set of the match, SVC used a strong start to jump out to a 9-0 lead. SVC went on to win its 30th consecutive set 25-14.

Throughout the match Regis's Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) held the Mountaineer offense in check with 24 digs. A high powered SVC offense hit .258 for the match as they swung 93 times. Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the Pride offense with nine kills.

Hershey Canta recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 14 digs in Saturday's contest. Fellow captain Joanna Hogue had 15 digs in the victory. Sevilla led the Mountaineers service game with four aces. Reigning AVCA National Player of the Week Jessica Alvarez finished off another solid week with a .323 hitting percentage against the Pride.

The Pride returns to NECC action on Wednesday night when Regis hosts Becker College in a 7:00 p.m. match. The Mountaineers travel to Lesley University for an NECC tilt on Wednesday evening as well.
