PRIDE'S LATE COMEBACK NOT SUFFICIENT AS NIGHTHAWKS PULL OUT WIN 3-2

BROOKLINE, Mass.-The Regis College women's volleyball team was defeated by Newbury College Wednesday night by the score of 3-2. The Pride moves to 6-15 overall on the season and 2-2 in the NECC. The Nighthawks move to 10-13 overall on the season and 2-1 in the NECC.

The Pride came out strong in game one defeating the Nighthawks 25-20 behind a balanced offensive attack that hit .429 as a team.  Regis College Sophomore Anneliese Harrison (Holliston, Mass.) led the way for the Pride hitting 1.000 with three kills. Sophomore Julie Endara (Boca Raton. Fla.) led the Pride in kills with 13 and 14 digs.

 The Nighthawks were led by the powerful play of freshman Lauren Watson (Denver, CO) and Sydney Fish (Kalamazoo, Mich).  Watson and Fish combined for 23 of the teams 39 kills in the five set match.

Newbury however, would answer back quickly as the Nighthawks went on to take sets two and three by scores of 25-21, 25-21.  Newbury's Watson and Fish combined for 11 kills, 7 digs and 3 serving aces in the two sets and both hit .350 in the comeback effort. 

 The Pride fought back to pull even at two sets a piece, flipping the score on the Nighthawks 25-21 to force a fifth and final set.  Outside hitter Julie Endara would pace the Pride with five kills and four digs in the set, while teammate Sara Gold (N. Hollywood, Calif.) would pick up nine digs in the victory. 

In the final set of the match Newbury jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked backed.  In an all around balanced attack, the Nighthawks finished off the pride on a kill by setter Regina Sibilia (Agawam, Mass.) from outside hitter Jessy Touron (Brockton, Mass.). 

The Pride returns to action Saturday when the team travels to Vermont to take on the Mountaineers from Southern Vermont College for NECC conference play. The Nighthawks return to the hard-court Saturday morning in a tri-match that will feature NECC foe Becker College and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
