REGIS SNAPS STREAK WITH 3-1 VICTORY

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team snapped a six game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory in NECC action over visiting Elms College. The Pride won by set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15 to improve to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in the NECC. Elms drops to 5-12 and 0-2 in league play with the setback. Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) posted 11 kills and Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.) added 10 of her own in the win.

Regis jumped out to an early 9-2 lead capped off by a Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) block that prompted an Elms timeout. The break in action did not faze the Pride as they extended their lead to 15-6 on an error by the Blazers. Elms cut the lead to 15-8 before a pair of service aces by Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass.) pushed the Pride lead to 19-8 and Regis never looked back as the Crimson and Gold took game one 25-12.

Game two was a back-and-forth battle to start the set as the game was tied 4-4 following an attack error by Silver. After a service error by the Blazers, Regis went on an 11-4 run to extend its lead to 15-8. Elms would claw back into the game, led by a kill from Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) and a service ace by Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.), to make it a 15-12 game, but the Pride would withstand the push as they finished out the second set on a 10-2 run to take game two, 25-14.

The third start started very much the same as both teams traded scores before two quick points by the Blazers prompted a Regis timeout with the Pride trailing 10-9. With the score tied at 14-all, Jackie Silver posted one of her six kills in making it a 15-14 game, and forced the Blazers to burn their first timeout. Caitlyn Walsh (Taunton, Mass.) served up back-to-back aces to make it a 23-18 lead for the Pride, before the Blazers ended the game on a 7-0 run, paced by a pair of kills by Martin and three kills by Croteau, to steal game four, 25-23.

In the final set, Regis raced out to a 5-2 lead before the Blazers knifed into the early deficit and forced a Pride timeout with the Blazers trailing 11-8. The Pride took advantage of the timeout and went on a 9-2 run, capped off by a Megan Pratt service ace to make it 20-10. Both teams traded points towards the end of the match, but it was too little too late for the Blazers as a Domingas Gomes kill finished off Elms, 25-15.

The Pride were paced by 11 kills and 16 digs from Domingas Gomes while Julie Endara also posted a double-double with 10 kills and 22 digs. Megan Pratt handed out a match-high 22 assists and had three service aces for the offense while Sara Gold chipped in with 16 digs and Vanessa Noesi (Methuen, Mass.) had two total blocks to lead the defense.

Elms was led by 10 kills and 20 digs from Stacy Croteau as well as eight kills and 15 digs from Christina Martin. Jennifer Rego set up the offense with 21 assists and also added 15 digs of her own. Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) chipped in with 15 digs while Rachel Cowen (Ellington, Conn.) posted 1.5 blocks in the setback.

Regis returns to action on Friday night when the Pride steps out of conference play to host Simmons College in a 7:00 p.m. match. The Blazers will play host to St. Joseph's on Thursday night in a non-conference match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
