REGIS COLLEGE PREPARING TO TAKE DOWN CONFERENCE OPPONENT

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College women’s volleyball has been on the road for more than six matches, with its last home game being October 1 against St. Joseph’s of Maine. Ending in a 3-1 loss to the Monks, Regis has captured four wins in that time. Regis College is preparing to host Salve Regina (Oct. 19) at 7:00 p.m.

Regis captured its most recent win in a 3-2 defeat of the Randolph College. The Pride struggled with the host Wildcats, but would stand strong to win 25-13, 25-23, 18-25, 11-25, 15-11.

Meghan McCarty (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) led the Pride in kills with 12 and 10 respectively. The pair has held the top two spots in team kills this season with Endara earning 205 (2.23 kills/game), and McCarty contributing 180 kills (1.89 kills/game).

Two of Regis’ four wins came against The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents. Its first came against Eastern Nazarene (Oct. 2) in a 3-2 win. The Pride would also play Anna Maria College, defeating the AMCats 3-0.

Regis has met its share of tough matches. It has battled in several games this year, winning at least a set in five of its last six contests.

When Regis College hosts Salve Regina Tuesday, it will have a tough match-up at hand. The Seahawks enter the game 9-12 overall, and 4-3 within The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Furthermore, Salve Regina is currently on a three-game winning streak.

In its last two matches Salve Regina has gone to four games, and went to five games with Rhode Island College. Regis lost to Rhode Island (Sept. 4) 3-0 as a part of its Pride Invitational at the start of the year. In 77 games this year the Seahawks have put down 8.91 kills per game, and picked up just under 16 digs per game.

Regis College is ringing in with 6.41 kills a game, and just over 9 digs per game. With the Pride tallying slightly lower marks in two important categories, Regis could potentially score off of service aces. The Pride rank slightly higher than Salve Regina, scoring 2.21 services aces a game, to the Seahawks 1.97.

The Pride is currently in seventh place, just behind Salve Regina. A win could help Regis College in turns of post season positioning, but a number of matches are left to be played this season. However, a win versus Salve Regina would help the Pride going into the last three conference games.

Tuesday will also mark the “Dig Pink” initiative for Regis College. As a part of the program, organized by freshman Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif./Norte Dame), the Pride will be selling pink t-shirts and bracelets as part of the Side-Out Foundations way of raising awareness of breast cancer research.

“Dig Pink” tee shirts will be sold for $6, while bracelets will go for $2. Donations made for the “Dig Pink” campaign will go to the Side-Out Foundation. Regis College women’s volleyball is pledging to raise $1,000 to donate.
