WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL STRUGGLES IN PRIDE INVITE

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College women’s volleyball had a tough first day in its annual Pride Invitational losing all of its matches 3-0. The Pride opened the day versus Worcester Polytechnic Institute looking for an early win to gain confidence for the day, but WPI brought Regis’ hopes of a win to a stammering halt by downing the Pride 3-0.

Freshman Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif./Notre Dame) came with a star-studded performance playing the libero position. Gold was active along the back line, as well as set teammate Meghan McCarty (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) up for several pounding kills to the WPI defense. McCarty had 16 total attacks in the match.

Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) also joined the show contributing to McCarty’s point-worthy kills, and playing in sync with the production that Gold and McCarty put together.

McCarty had a better game against Framingham State, earning Regis nine points off of kills in the Pride’s second match of the day. Garrity found her form as well, tallying several assists, including a block assist, and two digs. Gold too had a good game against the Rams, making 15 digs.

Following two tough battles Regis entered its third game of the night at 3:00 p.m. versus Rhode Island College. Having been in two tough matches earlier in the day the Anchormen made a 3-0 win seem easy. Not to say Regis did not play hard, they did, but Rhode Island made use of Regis’ errors.

McCarty had just two kills, drastically lower than her earlier two games. Sophomore Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) had a team-high five kills, and equally consistent games against WPI and Framingham State.

The Pride will open day two of the Pride Invitational against Suffolk (8:00 a.m.), and return for its afternoon match versus Worcester State.
