Regis Track and Field Resumes Indoor Season at USM Open II

GORHAM, Maine - The Regis College track and field team resumed its 2022-23 indoor season by participating in the USM Open II, hosted Saturday by the University of Southern Maine at the USM Field House.

Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) earned one of Regis' two event victories during the day, finishing first in the 55 meter hurdles in both the preliminaries in 8.27 seconds and the finals in 8.36 seconds. Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) also qualified for the finals after finishing sixth in the preliminaries in 9.14 seconds, followed by a sixth place finish in the finals in 9.17 seconds.

The other Regis event victory was notched by Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) in the 3000 meter run as she won the race by over 20 seconds with a time of 11:29.05. Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) finished third in the same event with a time of 12:53.29.

Earlier in the one mile run, Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished second with a time of 5:29.01, with Erin Kelley placing third in 5:45.90 and Parker crossing the finish line in seventh in 6:20.36. Ashleigh Kelley also finished in fourth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:36.44.

Charles finished third in the men's weight throw with a top mark of 11.94 meters (39' 2.25") achieved on his sixth and final attempt. He also led off the Pride's 4x200 meter relay team, joining with Bryan De Souza (Everett, Mass.), Grayson, and Ed Power (Lynn, Mass.) to finish fourth with an overall time of 1:46.03.

Grayson also finished sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters (5' 10.75") on his first attempt, while Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) placed in a tie for seventh place after he cleared the same height on his second attempt. In addition, Grayson finished seventh overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.28 seconds, while Thuotte posted a mark of 11.95 meters (39' 2.5") on his first attempt in the triple jump to end up in third place.

Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) finished in second place in the women's 600 meter run with a time of 1:54.43. She also teamed with Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.), Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.), and Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.) to finish fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with an overall time of 5:12.70.

In the men's 800 meter run, Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) finished in fifth place with a time of 2:20.67, followed by Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) in sixth place in 2:22.72. Margiatto, Sigman, AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.), and Thuotte combined to finish fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with an overall time of 3:57.00.

In the women's triple jump, Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) finished in sixth place with a mark of 8.81 meters (28' 11"), while Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) finished sixth in the 400 meter dash in 1:10.87. The quartet of Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.), Micah Bowen (Springfield, Mass.), Diana DelloRusso (Milford, Mass.), and Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) finished in sixth place in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 2:08.50.

In the team standings, the women finished in fifth place with 49 points, while the men ended up in sixth place with 33 points.

The majority of the Regis College track and field team will make the short trip to Waltham, Mass., for the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University next Saturday, Jan. 14. Some members of the team will head to The Track at New Balance for the Suffolk Invitational on the same day.
