PRIDE BEGIN SPRING SEMESTER AT TUFTS

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Regis Track and Field team opened up their 2013 competition schedule by competing at the Tufts Indoor Invitational.

Several on the sprints side showed continued improvement through the holiday season including Matt Owens, Kevin Lara, and Alex Tran, all of whom ran personal bests at the meet. Owens PR'd in both the 60m and 200m dashes by running 7.50 and 24.48, respectively. Kevin Lara ran 26.67 in the 200m and has already dropped nearly half a second from his time after transitioning from the baseball diamond, and Alex Tran continued a strong sophomore year by getting under eight seconds in the 60m for the first time by running 7.96.

Santi Strickland also showed improvement by running a collegiate best of 28.41 and dominating her heat of the 200 meters.

On the distance side of things, all of the athletes continued a hard week of training by running multiple races. Sarah Schow, Owen McQuaid, and Jonathan Paul all participated in the mile and then doubled back in the 800 meter run. In the coming month, they expect the tough efforts now will propel them to personal bests in events from the mile through the 5000 meters.

The next competition for the team will be on Sunday at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational and will take place at Harvard University's indoor track.
