PRIDE HEATING UP AT FITCHBURG STATE MEET

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The temperatures in New England have yet to rise, but the Regis College Pride are heating things up on the track. The highlight of the meet came in the 400m with Jeremy Israel (Boston, Mass.) writing his ticket back to the DIII New England Championships by running 51.18 and placing 2nd overall.

Other members of the track and field team sprinting well included Matthew Owens (Boston, Mass.), who crossed the line 6th in the 100m running 11.47, Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.), who cruised to a 23.85 over 200m, and Carlos Romer (Boston, Mass.) who, also in the 200m, took down his old personal best with a 25.19.

Things continued to sizzle in the field events. Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) clinched 6th place after putting the shot to an all time best of 12.90m and Emmanuel Wani (Portland, Maine) improved upon his long jump debut from the prior week by flying out to a distance of 5.66 and snagging 8th place.

Finally, Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) showed his versatility by scoring in all four events that he participated in. Competing in the 4x400m and 4x100m relays as well as the triple jump and 400m hurdles, the rangy athlete took 6th, 2nd, 6th and 6th, respectively.

With scoring coming in fast and furiously, the men were able to tie for 7th out of the twenty teams scoring in the meet.

Not to be outdone, the Regis Women had some outstanding performances as well. Santi Strickland (Holbrook, Mass.) crushed her heat of the 200m and in doing so ran a 29.21. In the longer distances, Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.) gutted out a PR for the second consecutive week this time in the 1500m running 5:56.96.

At the pole vault pit, Katherine Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a clearance at 1.85m, and her teammate Tory Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) snagged 5th in the event by vaulting 2.60m.

The Pride are out of action next weekend, but the campaign continues on the 20th at MIT
