STRONG SHOWING FOR PRIDE AT UMASS BOSTON INVITE

ROXBURY, Mass - The Regis College men's and women's Track and Field teams opened their seasons this past Saturday at the UMASS Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. Several team members had standout performances for the Pride.

The day started and ended with Pride team members competing in field events. Leading off for the women was junior Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.), who cleared 2.60m in the pole vault. Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) closed out the field events for the day by launching the 16lb shot to a personal best of 12.79m in the men's shot put.

On the track, the highlight of the distance squad came from junior Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.), who finished the mile with a time of 6:25. Sprinters Santi Strickland (Holbrook, Mass.), Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.), and Matthew Owens (Boston, Mass.) each added to the strong performances by winning their heats of the 200 Meter Dash with times of 28.88, 24.03, and 24.80, respectively.

After shaking off the dust, the team now looks to improve on their initial performances at the Harvard Open on December 8th. Start time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
