FULL GNAC PRESS RELEASE

WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second consecutive year, Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) has been voted First Team All-GNAC in both singles and doubles, highlighting Regis College's representation on the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis All-Conference Team as voted on by the league's head coaches at the end of the regular season.

In singles during dual matches, Thompson was a perfect 7-0, including a 2-0 record in regular season conference play. She won all singles contests in straight sets, not losing a single game in six straight sets from the Suffolk match Sept. 26 through the GNAC Tournament semifinal match against Simmons Oct. 14.

Thompson and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) were voted First Team All-GNAC in doubles after posting a perfect 7-0 record as a team in dual matches. The duo won all four regular season GNAC doubles sets and then picked up key points for the Pride with victories in both the tournament semifinal against Simmons and the GNAC championship match against Colby-Sawyer College Oct. 21.

First-year player Sophi Machado (Hopedale, Mass.) was selected to represent Regis on the GNAC Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team. She worked her way into the playing lineup and picked up key victories along the way, especially in the regular season finale against University of Saint Joseph. Machado teamed with Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) to win their doubles point in a tiebreaker, and then she earned a straight-set victory in singles (7-5, 6-2) to clinch the match for the Pride.

The Regis College women's tennis team advanced to the GNAC Tournament title match for the third consecutive year, once again defeating Simmons in the semifinals. The Pride battled Colby-Sawyer College in the championship match, taking a 2-1 lead after doubles, but the Chargers would prevail in the end, 5-3.

Regis completed the fall portion of the 2023-24 schedule with a 6-4 overall record, including non-conference wins over Bridgewater State, Western New England, and Suffolk. The Pride are planning a short spring schedule to be announced in early 2024.
