Kiana Thompson Named GNAC Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading the Regis College women's tennis team back to the championship match of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament, sophomore Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) has been named the GNAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Monday, Oct. 16, by the league office.

Saturday morning against Simmons, Thompson and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) earned their sixth dual match doubles victory without a loss this season, winning the set in the number one position, 8-2. Thompson then cruised to a straight-set victory at number one singles (6-0, 6-1) as the Pride defeated the Sharks, 5-1, in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament at the Daly Field Tennis Courts in Brighton, Mass.

In dual matches, Thompson is 6-0 in singles and 8-1 in doubles so far this season, improving her career dual match records to 16-0 in singles and 18-2 in doubles. The 2022 GNAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, Thompson is receiving her second weekly award this season, as she was previously honored two weeks ago after wins in both singles and doubles over Suffolk and Albertus Magnus.

Regis College (6-3) heads to New London, N.H., to face Colby-Sawyer College for the third straight year in the GNAC Tournament title match Saturday, Oct. 21, starting at 12 p.m.
