Women’s Tennis Again Advances to GNAC Tourney Title Match

BRIGHTON, Mass. - For the third consecutive year, Regis College has advanced to the championship match of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Tournament after defeating Simmons, 5-1, Saturday morning in a semifinal contest at the Daly Field Tennis Courts.

The Pride grabbed a 2-1 lead in doubles, starting with an 8-2 victory by Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) at number one doubles. At number two doubles, Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) picked up an 8-1 win to bring Regis into singles with the lead.

In singles, Gevry struck first with a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-2) at number four singles, followed quickly by Thompson at number one singles, also in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). Lopez would clinch the match for the Pride with a straight set victory at number three singles (6-4, 6-1), advancing Regis into the conference championship match for the third straight season.

Regis College (6-3) will once again travel to Colby-Sawyer College to face the Chargers in the GNAC title match next Saturday, Oct. 21, with the start time to be announced.
