Women’s Tennis Sees Winning Streak Snapped

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College saw its five-match winning streak come to an end as Colby-Sawyer College took sole possession of first place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings with a 9-0 victory Friday evening in a GNAC women's tennis contest at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Chargers took both doubles sets that were played as Emily Hill and Alyssa Owens won in the first doubles position, 8-2, while Isabella Gutierrez and Lily Tria were victorious in the number two doubles spot, 8-4.

Colby-Sawyer clinched the overall match when Amelia Campanella won in the number five singles position in straight sets without losing a single game. Hill also won her match at number two singles without dropping a game, while Owens lost just one game at number one singles and Elise Hogan completed her victory at number four singles with just two games going against her.

The closest singles match came in the number three position as Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) battled Gutierrez, but Gutierrez was able to break Lopez's serve in the 10th game of the second set to clinch the straight-set victory (6-2, 6-4).

Regis College (6-2, 4-1 GNAC) will look to rebound as it travels to face University of Saint Joseph on the final day of the conference season Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 12 p.m. Colby-Sawyer College (7-2, 5-0 GNAC) hosts Simmons University Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
