Women’s Tennis Earns First Spring Victory

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the spring season, defeating UMass Boston, 7-2, Friday afternoon in a non-conference contest at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Pride picked up the first point at number three doubles when Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) won their set, 8-0. After the Beacons tied the match with an 8-0 win at number one doubles, Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) earned an 8-4 win at number two doubles to give Regis a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.

Gevry continued her dominant play, not losing a game in the fifth singles position for a straight-set victory, followed by a win for Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) in the sixth singles position in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). Colby provided the clinching point for the Pride with a straight-set win at number four singles (6-4, 6-4).

Both Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) at number one singles and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) at number two singles rallied to defeat their opponents. Each player lost the first set, 6-2, before taking the second set, 6-4, and the super-tiebreaker for the final two points of the match.

Regis College (8-10) faces Saint Anselm College at the SNHU Penman Stadium Tennis Courts in Manchester, N.H., Sunday, April 3, beginning at 1 p.m. UMass Boston (8-6) concludes its spring season at Endicott College Wednesday, April 13, starting at 3 p.m.
