Regis Women’s Tennis Loses Close Contest to Wartburg

ORLANDO, Fla. – Regis College battled Wartburg College Tuesday morning, but the Knights prevailed over the Pride, 6-3, in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the USTA National Campus.

Wartburg gained control of the match by winning all three doubles sets, but Regis started a rally thanks to two singles victories. After losing the first set, Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) quickly rebounded to win the second set and the super-tiebreaker to take the match at number four singles (0-6, 6-1, 10-6).

Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) finished a straight-set win at number five singles (6-1, 6-3) to bring the Pride within one at 3-2, but Wartburg picked up a straight-set victory at number one singles for its fourth point. At number three singles, Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) won the first set, but Georgia Nissen of Wartburg came back to win the second set and the super-tiebreaker (3-6, 6-4, 10-8) to clinch the overall match for the Knights.

Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) bounced back from a first set loss, fighting to win the second set on a tiebreaker along with the super-tiebreaker for the victory at number two singles (2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-6).

Regis College (7-7) is next scheduled to face Adrian College Wednesday, March 2, starting at 5 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
