Women’s Tennis Sweeps Albertus Magnus

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College picked up its third victory overall and second win in league play, defeating Albertus Magnus College, 9-0, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Pride quickly won the doubles sets in the second and third positions, as the duos of Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) both won, 8-0. The number one doubles team of Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) eventually closed out their contest with an 8-5 win.

FitzPatrick completed her singles contest first with a straight-set win (6-0, 6-0), and then Colby clinched the team match with a similar singles victory. Beatrice also won her match without dropping a game, and Gevry lost just one game in the first set as she picked up a singles victory for the Pride.

At number one singles, Katelyn Mogelnicki defeated JuJu Oliver in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). In the final match to be completed, Lauren Mogelnicki battled Mariah Mandulak in the number two position, with Mogelnicki prevailing by breaking Mandulak's serve in the final game of the second set for a straight-set decision (6-4, 7-5).

Regis College (3-2, 2-0 GNAC) continues its homestand this week with two more league matches, first welcoming University of St. Joseph Wednesday, Sept. 22, starting at 4:30 p.m. Next Saturday, the Pride hosts Simmons University in a key GNAC contest beginning at 10:30 a.m. Albertus Magnus (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) is scheduled to play at Sarah Lawrence tomorrow, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. before hosting Eastern Nazarene next Friday, Sept. 24, starting at 3:30 p.m.
