Pride Tennis Picks Up Non-Conference Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College earned its second consecutive victory, defeating Salem State University, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Pride picked up two of the three doubles points, including an 8-1 victory for Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) in the second doubles position. Salem State earned its point at number one doubles thanks to a win by Alexandria Floyd and Anastasia Startseva.

In singles, Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) completed her match first with a straight-set victory at the number five position, while Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) clinched the team competition for the Pride with her win at number three singles. Neither Colby nor Gevry lost a single game during their contests.

After Startseva put another point on the board for Salem State at number one singles, Beatrice picked up a straight-set win at number four singles (6-2, 6-1), and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) collected the final point for the Pride with a two-set victory at number two singles (6-3, 6-3).

Regis College (2-2) returns to conference play this weekend, hosting Albertus Magnus Saturday, Sept. 18, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Regis Tennis Courts. Salem State (0-4) is off until next Wednesday, Sept. 22, when the Vikings host Wheaton starting at 4 p.m.
