Pride Tennis Teams Wrap Up Spring Break Trip

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Regis College men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up their five-match Spring Break trip to Florida Friday morning, with both squads losing to Webber International University at the Webber Campus Tennis Courts.

The women's team lost to the Warriors, 6-1, first dropping two of the three doubles sets to give the home team the doubles point. Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) won their doubles set in the number three position, 6-2.

Webber International won the top four singles matches in straight sets to clinch the team victory. Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) picked up Regis' only point of the contest with a straight-set victory at number six singles (6-1, 6-1). At number five singles, FitzPatrick rallied from a first-set loss to win the second set, 7-5, and force a super-tiebreaker, but her opponent eventually prevailed, 11-9.

The Pride women (11-6) will return to action in three weeks, traveling west to face Springfield College Wednesday, March 25, beginning at 4 p.m.

On the men's side, the Pride took a 5-2 loss, as the Warriors earned the doubles point after winning two of three matches. The duo of Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) and Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) earned a 6-0 victory at number three doubles.

Russell continued his strong play at number five singles, not losing a game in posting a straight-set victory (6-0, 6-0). The Pride's other point came at number six singles with a default victory.

The Regis men (1-8) continue their primary playing season with the conference opener against Colby-Sawyer College held Sunday, March 15, at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., starting at 1 p.m.
