Regis Women’s Tennis Eliminated from GNAC Tournament

WINCHESTER, Mass. – Regis College lost to Eastern Nazarene Saturday afternoon, 5-2, in the semifinals of the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Tournament, held at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center.

Eastern Nazarene (11-2) took the early lead by winning the doubles sets in both the first and second positions. The match at third doubles was a battle, but Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) were able to prevail, 8-7, to give the Pride their first point of the match.

The Pride picked up their other point in the number six singles position, as Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) cruised to a straight-set victory (6-0, 6-1). However, the Lions picked up straight-set wins at the first and fifth singles positions, and then Emily Ruttkowski clinched the match for Eastern Nazarene with a straight-set win at second singles.

Eastern Nazarene, the second seed in the tournament, will face top seed Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Tournament championship match Sunday, Oct. 20, at 12:30 p.m.

Regis concludes its fall season with a 9-3 dual match record, including a 5-2 mark within the GNAC to finish third in the league standings. The Pride are planning their annual spring break trip, with the schedule to be announced soon.
