WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat to Emerson College on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the Regis Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 9-6 on the season, while the Lions improve to 5-9.

Before the match, Pride head coach John Ciarleglio honored Regis seniors Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) in a Senior Day ceremony.

The Pride picked up the day's first point once doubles play got underway, as the freshman tandem of Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) and Gracie Jarest (Wrentham, Mass.) combined to pick up an 8-3 win at third doubles over Emerson's Sarah Skeeles (Hamden, Conn.) and Jolin Cheng (Woodstock, Vt.). Emerson would rebound however, evening the score with a win at second doubles, as freshman Cassia Burns (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore Sabrina Jacobs (Demarest, N.J.) downed DiPace and Kanarkiewicz 8-3. The Lions would jump on top in a tie break to round out doubles play, with Alisha Parikh (Los Altos, Calif.) and Rachel Scalera (Encino, Calif.) defeated the Pride's Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) and Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) 9-8 (7-2).

Emerson carried the momentum into singles play to earn the victory. Cheng and Burns picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at fourth and sixth singles, respectively, to put the Lions in the position to clinch the match, before the Pride got one back at third singles. McCormack had a big match for the Pride, defeating Scalera 6-0, 6-1 to stave off defeat for the time being, but a win at fifth singles by Emerson's Skeeles would close it out.

The Pride will be off for the weekend before hosting Saint Anselm on Tuesday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Center. Emerson will be back in action immediately, traveling to Wheaton for a 10:30 a.m. NEWMAC match on Saturday.
