Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. - Sophomore Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) won at both singles and doubles, but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday night in its season opener at the ENC Tennis Courts.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 0-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 3-0 on the year.

Scanlon and freshman Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) picked up a key win at No. 2 doubles to avoid a doubles sweep, winning in a tie break 9-8 (7-5) over Eastern Nazarene's Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.).

Scanlon followed up the crucial win at doubles with a dominating performance in singles play. The sophomore defeated Cressman 6-0, 6-1 from the number four position. Also picking up a win in singles play was sophomore Kailey Myers (Norwalk, Calif.), who won at No. 6 singles, defeating Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-4.

The Pride appeared primed for a victory, but Eastern Nazarene came from behind at first, second and third singles to win in tie-breakers after dropping the first set.

The Pride will be back in action on Saturday, playing Lesley University in a rematch of last season's New England Collegiate Conference Championship match at 10:00 a.m. at the Regis Tennis Center. Eastern Nazarene will look to maintain its unblemished record by hosting Rhode Island College on Thursday afternoon.
