PRIDE DEFEAT HAWKS 9-0, EARN SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST IN NECC

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's tennis team took sole possession of first place in the New England Collegiate Conference with a 9-0 sweep of Becker College on Saturday afternoon. The victory improved the Pride to 6-1, 5-0 NECC and with the loss, the Hawks dropped to 5-6, 4-1 NECC.

The victory over the Hawks extended the Prides' NECC dominance as they have not lost a match in over two years. Regis currently holds a 31 match win streak against conference rivals with their last loss coming against Becker on October 1, 2012.

Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead following doubles play as reining NECC Player of the Week Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) defeated the duo of Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.). Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and her partner, NECC Rookie of the Week, Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) beat Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.) and Emily Wodell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) 8-3. The Pride took No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-2 with Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) earning the win.

All of the matches in singles play were decided in two sets except for one match. Jessie Lord squared off against her sister Jennifer in No 1 singles and lost the first set 7-5. Jessie rallied from behind and took the next two sets by a score of 6-3 and 10-5 in the decisive third set. Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) saw action at No. 6 singles and defeated Emily Wodell 6-1, 6-2.

The Pride continue their conference slate of games as they wrap up the month of September with a home match against conference opponent Lesley University on Tuesday, September 29th at 4:30 p.m.
