BECKER DOWNS PRIDE IN NECC SEMIFINALS

LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Regis College, 5-0, in the Semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Leicester, Mass. The Pride wraps up its fall season at 5-9 overall. Becker advances to host the NECC Championship match on Saturday afternoon against either Bay Path College or Lesley University.

In doubles play, the number one tandem of Megan Nessen (Levittown, Pa.) and Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) defeated Elora Granados (Chillichote, Texas) and Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.), 8-2. Senior Shauna McNally (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman teammate Nicole Connolly (Scarborough, Maine) picked up the win in the number two doubles spot by defeating Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.), 8-0. The Hawks completed the sweep of doubles when Lianna Woodbury (South Dennis, Mass.) and Courtney Johnson (Auburn, ME.) downed Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, VT.), 8-1.

In singles action, freshman Nicole Connolly defeated Mary Jane Barron in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Senior Laura Mimms then propelled the Hawks into the conference finals when she sealed the win defeating Caroline Roche 6-0, 6-0.

Regis returns to action in the spring when the Pride takes on Rhode Island College on March 30th, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
