PRIDE SINKS MARINERS, 8-1

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College women's tennis inched closer to a playoff spot with an 8-1 victory over visiting Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon in NECC action in Weston, Mass. The Pride improves to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the league while Mitchell drops to 1-8 and 0-7 in conference matches.

The Pride grabbed an early 3-0 lead in doubles play as all three Regis duos won their matchups. NECC Rookie of the Week Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) posted an 8-3 win in number one doubles over Mackenzie Flanagan (San Anselmo, Calif.) and Amanda Resnick (Ridgewood, N.J.) while Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) took down Julie Embley (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Jaime Topkin (New London, Conn.) at number two doubles, 8-2. Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) wrapped up doubles play with an 8-0 victory at number three doubles.

Mackenzie Flanagan posted Mitchell's first point of the match at number one singles with her 6-4, 6-0 win over Elora Granados. That would be the lone point the Pride would allow as Roche defeated Resnick, 6-4, 6-2 in number two singles while MJ Barron and Deirdre Botsch (Foxboro, Mass.) posted matching 6-1, 6-0 victories in their respective flights at numbers three and six singles. Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) and Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt.) also won their matchups by matching scores with 6-0, 6-0 victories at numbers four and five singles, respectfully.

Regis returns to action on Thursday afternoon as the Pride travels to Pine Manor College to take on Newbury College in a 3:30 p.m. NECC match. Mitchell looks to snap a five game skid when the Mariners travel to Becker College on Wednesday to take on the Hawks in a conference match at 3:00 p.m.
