REGIS FALLS TO EASTERN NAZARENE, 7-2

QUINCY, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team will have to wait for another day to grab its first win of the season as the Pride dropped a 7-2 decision to Eastern Nazarene College on Monday afternoon in non-conference tennis action. The Lions pick up their first win of the season, improving to 1-5, while Regis drops to 0-4 this year.

ENC's #1 duo of Sharon Lemire and Elise Sleeper defeated Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) 8-3. In the second doubles match, Samantha Jones and Alison Cornell were able to edge Pride players Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) 8-5. Cara Nelson and Juju Atwater scored the Lions third point of the day, beating Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) and Deirdre Botsch (Foxboro, Mass.) 8-5.

Regis' Elora Granados showed skillful play in the top individuals match, beating Elise Sleeper decisively, 6-2, 6-2. The win was Gvandos' first of her collegiate career. At #2 ENC's Sharon Lemire handled Mary Jane Barron to give the Lions their first point in singles action (6-2, 6-2). The third match-up was a battle between Samantha Jones and RC's Kendall Kolb, with Jones stealing the point (6-4, 6-2). Alison Cornell of Eastern Nazarene took the fourth singles point, defeating Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) 6-2, 6-4. In the #5 match, Paige Pasley played extremely well and earned another point for Regis, defeating Cara Nelson 6-2, 6-2. Juju Atwater stepped onto the singles court for the first time in the #6 match, and impressively garnered the first individual win of her career against Pride player Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt.) (8-5).

Regis will waste no time returning to the courts as the Pride travel to Lesley University tomorrow night for a NECC match against the Lynx at 6:00 p.m. ENC looks to build on its first win of the season when the Lions travel to Wenham, Mass. for a CCC contest against Gordon at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
