BECKER DOWNS REGIS IN NECC OPENER

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team fell to Becker College, 8-1, in each team's respective NECC opener on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the NECC while the Pride drops to 0-3 and 0-1 in conference play. Regis' Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Mass.) picked up the lone point for Regis with her win in number six singles.

In doubles play, Megan Nessen (Levittown, Pa.) and Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) defeated Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) in number one singles by a score of 8-1. Shauna McNally (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Nicole Connolly (Scarborough, Maine) picked up a win in number two doubles over MJ Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) by a matching score of 8-1. The Hawks rounded out the doubles sweep as Courtney Johnson (Auburn, Maine) and Liana Woodbury (South Dennis, Mass.) handed Deirdre Botsch (Foxboro, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) an 8-3 setback in number three doubles.

Singles play was almost the same story as Becker took five of the six singles matches to wrap up its first NECC win of the year. Megan Nessen defeated MJ Barron in number one singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Nicole Connolly added a win in number two singles over Caroline Roche by matching set scores. Laura Mimms took a straight set decision (6-0, 6-0) over Kendall Kolb in number three singles. Shauna McNally and Liana Woodbury added wins in numbers four and five singles to wrap up the scoring for Becker. Maryse Emungu was the lone bright spot for the Pride as she needed a super tiebreaker to defeat Courtney Johnson in number six singles by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Regis continues the search for its first win of the season when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a non-conference matchup on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Becker steps out of conference play as well on Sunday afternoon when they host MCLA at 1:00 p.m.
