REGIS SUFFERS TOUGH SETBACK TO MOUNT IDA

NEWTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team suffered a difficult 5-4 setback to Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference tennis action in Newton, Mass. The Mustangs improve to 2-0 on the season while Regis drops to 0-1.

In doubles play, the Pride grabbed one point as Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) combined to beat Melissa Smith and Loni Klimbach, 8-4. Mount Ida's Amy Warner and Elizabeth Olszewski took down Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.), 8-1, in number one doubles while the duo of Kayla Horton and Elyse Horton took down Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.), 8-4, in the other doubles match.

The Pride took three of the six singles matches including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Caroline Roche at number two singles over Melissa Smith. Vanneyra Chum and Deirdre Botsch (Foxboro, Mass.) also won their singles matches at numbers four and six singles, respectively. Chum needed a third set to decide her match against Kayla Horton where she pulled out the win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7). Deirdre Botsch needed a second set tiebreak to take down Loni Klimbach, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Regis returns to action on Wednesday night when the Pride travel to Quincy, Mass. to take on the Eastern Nazarene Lions at 3:30 p.m.
