Women’s Soccer Wins Big on Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College overpowered Colby-Sawyer College, defeating the Chargers, 5-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Regis Stadium.

After going down early in the match, the Pride got back in the game with a corner kick taken by Tia Zanardi (Haverhill, Mass.) who sent the ball in front of the net. Aria Ulmer (Henniker, N.H.) scored off a header to tie the game at 1-1 in the 19th minute of play.

Eight minutes later, Maria Toumbouras (Walpole, Mass.) pushed the ball deep into the right side of Chargers territory before sending it across the front of the net to Allison Meade (Stoneham, Mass.), who settled the ball and scored to give Regis the lead.

The Pride's final goal of the first half came when Hailey Lovell (Wakefield, Mass.) dribbled through the Colby-Sawyer defense before sending a looping pass over the defender's heads, finding Emma Nunnemacher (West Boylston, Mass.) who finished the scoring play to give Regis a 3-1 lead.

Toumbouras earned her second assist of the game in the second half, this time pushing the ball into the left side of the box before crossing in front of the net to find Sara Costa (Ludlow, Mass.), who scored her fourth goal in the last two games to extend the Pride's lead.

The final goal of the game came in the 72nd minute of play when Costa sent an entry pass to Lovell who took her time to shoot, finding the bottom left corner of the net to beat the goalkeeper and give the home team a four-goal advantage.

Colby-Sawyer's only goal was scored just 33 seconds into a match when Sam Bishop scored off a long free kick that managed to sneak over the outstretched arms of Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) to give the visitors an early lead.

Van Cott played the entire game in net for Regis, making six saves, while Alexis Lebreton made three saves for the Chargers. The Pride finished with seven shots on goal and took a total of four corners.
