Women’s Soccer Collects GNAC Road Victory

PAXTON, Mass. – Led by the second brace in as many matches for senior Miya Nishibun (Honolulu, Hawaii), Regis College remained undefeated on the road after defeating Anna Maria College, 3-0, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer match at Caparso Field.

The Pride controlled possession right from the start of the match, peppering Anna Maria goalie Alice Yokabaskas with four shots on goal in the span of four-and-a-half minutes early in the first half. In the 14th minute, Maria Toumbouras (Walpole, Mass.) sent a long crossing pass from the left side of the field towards the front of the net, where Nishibun directed it into the goal to put the Pride on top.

In the 23rd minute, Kerri Urquhart (Burlington, Mass.) sent a 30-yard shot on goal that was stopped by Yokabaskas. However, Yokabaskas could not control the rebound, and Nishibun quickly flicked the ball into the net for her 10th goal of the season, just two goals from the Regis single-season record of 12 established by Michaela Ellis in 2001 and equaled by Adena Joseph in 2011.

Regis continued to apply the offensive pressure in the second half, finishing the match with a 20-3 shot advantage. With 3:22 remaining in the second half, Allison Meade (Stoneham, Mass.) blasted a free kick from the left wing into the net for her second goal of the season.

Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) and Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.) earned the combined shutout for the Pride. Yokabaskas kept the AMCATS relatively close by collecting 12 saves, including eight saves in the first half. Toumbouras and Hailey Lovell (Wakefield, Mass.) led the Pride with three shots on goal apiece.

Regis College (5-2, 4-1 GNAC) hosts Norwich University Saturday, Oct. 2, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
