Kaylee Francis Named GNAC Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading the Regis College offense with three goals in two conference matches, including the overtime winner Saturday, freshman Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Last Wednesday night against Saint Joseph's College of Maine, one of the top teams in the conference, Francis was able to slip a shot into the net midway through the first half to put the Pride on top, 1-0. Although it was Francis's only shot of the match, it allowed Regis to play with the lead throughout the remainder of the first half.

Saturday against the University of Saint Joseph, Francis quickly converted on her second shot just 4:03 into the contest, once again giving the Pride a 1-0 advantage. She led Regis with seven shots as the Pride outshot the Blue Jays, 27-13, with her seventh and final shot finding the back of the net with less than four minutes remaining in the overtime period to give Regis a 3-2 overtime victory, the team's third one-goal victory of the season.

So far this year, Francis leads the team with five goals and 11 total points, plus she is tied for second on the squad with 14 total shots and 11 shots on goal through the first six matches. The first-year player is tied for third in the GNAC with her five goals and tied for fourth in the league with 11 points.

The Regis women's soccer team, currently 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC, hits the road this week for matches at Johnson & Wales Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. and at Colby-Sawyer Saturday, Sept. 22, at 3:30 p.m. The Pride return home to face Emmanuel Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
